COLUMN SPLICE BOLTED COVER PLATE SPLICE CONNECTIONS DESIGN | S20
Summary Column Splice designs bolted cover plate splice connections for I and H-shaped columns.
What makes this module special?
Generate complex splice connections Evaluate user-defined connections Apply axial and bending loads Supports tying loads
Detailed Description This module is used to design bolted cover plate splice connections for I and H-shaped columns. Compressive loads are transferred between members in bearing, while tensile loads require cover plates bolted to the flanges of members. With the addition of a division plate, members with different serial sizes can be joined. Load cases can include axial and bending forces combined appropriately for the serviceability and ultimate limit states. Tying loads can optionally be included to comply with modern building standards.
Two design approaches are available: Check a user-defined connection Generate a suitable connection based on loads

Design Checks Various design checks must be satisfied for the connection to be adequate.
1. Recommended detailing practice of the entire connection 2. Presence of net tension in the cover plates 3. Resistance of cover plates to tension 4. Bolt group capacity in the presence of net tension 5. Minimum resistance of plates and bolts 6. Tying resistance of plates and bolts
